If you use Excel at all, you’ll want to commit these to memory (or print them out, or set them as your desktop wallpaper, or tattoo them on your colleague’s forehead, we’re not fussed).
Alt+Enter for a line break within a cell
No more holding down the space bar until the cursor drops to the next line, and fucking up all your formatting when you resize your columns.
F2 to edit a cell’s content
You know how you need to double click on a cell to edit content that’s already there, and it just ruins your flow going between your keyboard and your mouse, and it’s all too hard? Stick to the keyboard by pressing F2 to edit.
F4 to repeat the last action
Need to make certain cells bright yellow? Or need to make some text bold but not others? Or my personal favourite: merge and center individual groups of cells? Press F4 to repeat the same action multiple times (keeping in mind that Ctrl+Z will break the cycle).
Ctrl+drag to copy a new tab
Press Ctrl and drag a tab into the space next to it to create a duplicate new tab.
Double click the right edge of a column to fit to contents
No need to mess around trying to make a column fit the content’s optimum width – just double click the right edge and it’ll automatically resize.
